Marlon Leggat is the Founder and Architectural Designer of Marlon James Studio, a Cape Town based architectural and interior design practice known for creating spaces that merge international influence with a distinctly local sensibility. Founded in 2023, the studio moves across residential, hospitality and retail environments, with each project grounded in authenticity, restraint and an emotional connection to place.

Rather than being shaped by trends, Marlon’s design philosophy has been formed through experience, travel and observation. Drawing inspiration from the atmosphere of cities, the poetry of materials and the way architecture evokes feeling, his work balances craft, proportion and quiet confidence. His approach reflects a sensitivity to storytelling through space, creating environments that feel deeply considered and enduring.

Before launching his studio, Marlon built a strong reputation through a range of retail and hospitality projects across Cape Town. Since establishing Marlon James Studio, his work has gained both local and international recognition. The studio has been featured in prestigious publications including Architectural Digest Germany and on the cover of Elle Decoration UK. In 2024, Marlon was also awarded SCAPE Emerging Firm of the Year, recognising the studio’s fresh perspective and growing impact within the South African design industry.

His growing body of work reflects a belief that great design should not simply follow aesthetics, but create meaningful experiences that resonate long after a space is first encountered.

While rooted in South Africa, Marlon’s practice extends internationally, partnering with private clients and brands to create interiors defined by authenticity, craftsmanship and a strong sense of place.
